Heating and air conditioning installation, maintenance and repair can be a very satisfying , hands on type of work, that will keep you busy and give you a nice income. But how does one begin a career in heating and air conditioning or, as it is sometimes known, as an HVAC career?

Since air conditioning, heating and refrigeration systems  Consist of many different components, you must also be educated in many different areas. There are electrical, electronic and mechanical components to these systems, besides technicians must also be able to use many specialized  bits of testing and diagnostic equipment as well as specialized tools in order to do their jobs. People who work in this field must be able to install, maintain, and correctly diagnose problems and repair systems.

Technicians in HVAC careers must also be able to follow specifications and blueprints when installing complete systems or certain components of the system. The manner of beginning a carrer in this field is varied, and due to the sophistication of tadys heating and cooling systems, many employers are looking to hire only the formally educated and skilled in the field. Many colleges, technical and trade schools offer courses in HVAC training with six month to two year programs. There are also some courses that are offered online as well., but that is bot usually enough to be hired. Most employers want their employees to have field experience as well, and that is why they prefer people who have completed apprenticeships in the trade. With an apprenticeship coursework and field experience are both part of the learning process. So if you want to begin a HVAC career, it is best to obtain an apprenticeship, so that you will be more likely to be hired at the end of it.

If you are considering a career in heating and air conditioning you can expect to work 40 hour work weeks most of the time, but considerably more hours in prime seasonal fluxes, and to sometimes be "on call" during the peak of the season. Yet there seems to be a larger market than ever for these types of services. HVAC services are performed in residences, industries, and commercial buildings and some companies specialize in just heating or just air conditioning, or they will perform services for commercial buildings only or residences and small businesses only. there is a lot of variety to be found in a heating and air conditioning career.
